PHOTO OF THE DAY: GAME OF TAG

Sticks shortstop Tayden Kerrigan looks across the infield after tagging out Scotland/Menno’s Riley Keppen in Region 7B action in Tyndall Tuesday night.

Freeman/Marion will face Tyndall in the championship round of the 14-and-under tournament Wednesday evening. The Sticks advanced to the final day of the three-day tournament by defeating Scotland/Menno 5-3.

The Trappers were eliminated from the playoffs and finish the season 15-5-2.

The Sticks (20-3) will play the Tyndall Teeners (16-3) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday after losing to the host team 4-3 on Tuesday. Because Tyndall goes into the championship round without a loss, if Freeman/Marion wins on Wednesday, the two teams will play a second game to determine the Region 7B champion in a game scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

FROM EARLIER

The Sticks (20-2) needed just 2 1/2 innings to cruise past Irene/Viborg (0-7-1) in the first round of the VFW 14u Region 7 Tournament in Tyndall Monday evening, July 15. Marion/Freeman took down the Cardinals 15-0 by the mercy rule in the second game of the day to advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, where they will face Tyndall (15-3).

Tyndall defeated Scotland/Menno 9-4 in the first game of the double-elimination tournament.

The Trappers (15-4-2) are still alive, though, because they defeated Irene/Viborg 13-0 in an elimination game Monday night. Scotland/Menno will face another elimination game Tuesday night, where they will play the loser of the game between Freeman/Marion and Tyndall.

The winners of Tuesday’s games will advance to the championship round on Wednesday.

The first team to three wins advances to state.
