PHOTO OF THE DAY: FIELD OF PLAY

Luke Bierle keeps his eye on the ball after a flip from Mirik Vaith as Scotland/Menno tries to get the out at first in the opening round of the VFW 14u Region 7 Tournament being hosted by Tyndall this week. The Trappers fell to the host team 9-4 in Monday’s first game but came back to defeat Irene/Viborg later that night to advance to Tuesday’s second round.

Meanwhile on Monday, Freeman/Marion had little trouble with Irene/Viborg, defeating the Cardinals 15-0 in a game that lasted just 2 1/2 innings.

Here’s what’s next.

Freeman/Marion (20-2) will face Tyndall (14-3) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s championship round with a 2-0 tournament record.

The loser will be 1-1 and will play Scotland/Menno (15-4-2) Tuesday night for a spot in the championship round.

The first of two championship games (if necessary) will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. If the winner is undefeated, that team advances to state. If the losing team has just one loss, a second game will be played to determine the Region 7 winner.
