PHOTO OF THE DAY: COUNTDOWN TO CLASSES

It will soon be back-to-school time for students and educators across the state, with the 2024-25 term beginning next week for local schools. Marion will start Monday, Aug. 19, Freeman Public begins on Tuesday and Freeman Academy and Menno will both start Wednesday, Aug. 21. There are several activities planned in advance of the start of the year:

  • Freeman Academy will host its traditional opening convocation Sunday, Aug. 18 beginning at 7 p.m. on the lawn outside Pioneer Hall. A light meal will be served from The Link starting at 6 p.m. Those attending are invited to bring chairs.
  • Freeman Public families are invited to an all-school open house Monday, Aug. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. A complimentary supper will be served and a special orientation for seventh graders will be held at 6 p.m. in the library.
  • Menno is hosting an open house Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m., where the school board will once again serve a supper inside the city/school auditorium. Classrooms will be open and teachers will be available.
