Bob (Bobby) David Hofer, 80

Bob (Bobby) David Hofer, 80, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away Sunday, Sept. 8 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Bobby’s memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 13 at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church of rural Freeman, S.D., with burial in the church cemetery.

Bob D. Hofer was born on Sept. 24, 1943 in Dolton, S.D., the sixth child to David and Elsie Hofer. He was called to serve the Lord Jesus two weeks short of his 81st birthday.

He graduated from Freeman High School in 1963. He married Cindy Glaser from Yankton, S.D., on Feb. 27, 1970 and had an only daughter Sherry Lynn Hofer on July 10, 1970.

Most people called him “Bobby” and he kept a very neat and tidy space. His favorite foods were chislic, fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn, popcorn and candy. He loved having fast cars and playing pool, cards and dice. He never needed or asked for much. He worked for the Freeman Creamery, Morgan Mfg. and H&K Station in Yankton, traveled for a few years working in Florida and in later years worked for Gourley Properties in Sioux Falls.

Survivors who mourn his passing include his daughter Sherry Hofer (Scott Sutter) of Apache Junction, Ariz., his sisters: Bernice Kjos of Sioux Falls, Jane Schrader of Watertown, S.D., Gloria Schniederman in Viborg, S.D., sister in-law Penny Miller (Tom Miller) of Sioux City, Iowa, one brother, Dennis Hofer of Fort Worth, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, David and Elsie Hofer; brothers David Jr, Elgin, James and wife Margie; and brother in-laws Richard Kjos, Merrill Schneiderman and Don Schrader.
