PHOTO OF THE DAY: ANOTHER GAME DAY

This photo was taken last month and shows Freeman Academy junior David Ilunga in action against an opponent from Rapid City Christian. The Bobcats are back in action this afternoon when they host Vermillion in a match scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Here’s an update as the season nears its end.

For Freeman Academy, there are just two soccer matches left before the postseason begins. The Bobcats were scheduled to host Vermillion Thursday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. before traveling to James Valley Christian on Saturday to close out the regular season. The playoffs are set to begin Tuesday, Oct. 8 and, with a high seed, Freeman Academy is set to host that contest. As of early this week the Bobcats were sitting No. 3 in Class A with a 7-2-3 record; James Valley was No. 2 at 10-3-0 and Vermillion was No. 1 with a 6-2-1 mark. Eight of the 11 teams that play in Class A make the playoffs. The soccer postseason continues with the second round Oct. 12 and the championship Oct. 19 in Yankton.

Cross-country is nearing its conclusion, as well. FA/Marion, Freeman Public and Menno still have meets to come before the Region 3B competition in Scotland on Oct. 16, and state is set for Oct. 26 at Hart Ranch in Rapid City. The football regular season ends Oct. 18 with volleyball concluding Tuesday, Oct. 29.
