Roy Pfeiffer, 81

Roy James Pfeiffer, age 81, of Freeman, S.D., died Oct. 6, 2024 at Oakview Terrace nursing home.

Roy was born Sept. 4, 1943 to Edwin and Esther (Koerner) Pfeiffer in Freeman. He was baptized on Oct. 1, 1943 and later confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church on May 19, 1957.

Roy attended his elementary years at Heilbronn School. He finished out his secondary education at Freeman Public School, graduating in 1962. Following high school, Roy joined the military and served in the National Guard.

On Oct. 25, 1964, he married Sharon Neuharth at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman. The marriage was blessed with one daughter, Brenda (Bobbi) Pfeiffer and one son, Mark (Ingrid) Pfeiffer.

Roy worked many years as a bus and truck driver. He drove kids to school, hauled milk for AMPI, freight for All American and fuel for Stern Oil. In his later years, Roy was a custodian at Human Services Center in Yankton, S.D. He retired in 2015.

Roy loved farming, Oliver tractors and coffee time. He found great fellowship with friends at Total Stop in Freeman. Whether it was the Labor Day Plowing Event in Freeman, a threshing show nearby or something simple like the upcoming weather, Roy was always willing to have a conversation.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Brenda; son, Mark; grandchildren, Eric and Julia; sisters, Pat Kleinschmit and Marilyn Engel; and brother, Wayne Pfeiffer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Esther, and sister, Nancy Liebl.
