PHOTO OF THE DAY: OLD CHURCH

This photo, taken almost 60 years ago, shows the construction of what would be a new Salem Mennonite Church — a large brick structure that would replace the wooden building that had been serving the congregation. The new house of worship would be in use for 20 years before fire took it down, leading to another building similar in style built on the same location. The distinctive church tower that stills stands was built as part of the construction in 1965 and survived the fire.
