Eileen (Stroschein) Schmidt, 97

Eileen (Stroschein) Schmidt passed away Sept. 30, 2024 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., at Walter’s Funeral Home in Freeman, S.D. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.

Eileen was born Aug. 6, 1927 at Freeman. She graduated from Freeman High School in 1945. She married Rueben Schmidt in 1947, and three children were born to this marriage Jim, Kathryn and Cynthia.

Shortly thereafter the couple spent winters at Mission, Texas, enjoying the mild climate and the many activities available to them. After Rueben’s death in 2000, Eileen relocated to Mission permanently.

Survivors are her son Jim Schmidt of Canton, S.D.; sister Joyce Lehmann of Freeman; six grandchildren: Jesse, Scott and Dean Schmidt, Pam McBride, Rachel Uttecht and Lance Adrian; three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Peyton and Haley McBride; son-in-law Allen Adrian; and several nieces and nephews.

Eileen is preceded in death by her husband, Rueben; infant daughter Kathryn; daughter Cindy (Allen) Adrian; daughter-in-law Judi (Jim) Schmidt; parents Adam and Pauline Stroschein; sister Verna and husband Oliver Bender; brother-in-law Dale (Joyce) Lehmann; also, in-laws Arthur and Evangeline Schmidt, Albena and Henry Unruh, Hulda and Alvin Becker, Harvey and Yvonne Schmidt; and nephews Kevin Lehmann and Richard Becker.
