This was the scene inside the activities department at Freeman Regional Health Services Assisted Living last Friday afternoon, Jan. 24 as community natives Lisa Mueller Howard, right, and her sister, Joan Mueller Peters, shared inside details about their book, “Katy,” which was published last year. The program was the conclusion of an inner-generational activity in which first and second graders from Freeman Academy met with residents from the assisted living facility over the course of a month, partnering up to read the book together. The Mueller sisters — who remember hearing stories from their dad, Bruce — wrote “Katy” to tell the account of the German immigration story from Russia to America in 1874 through the eyes of a young child. The inner-generational reading and at Freeman Regional Health Services Assisted Living was coordinated by the activities department and Freeman Academy 1-2 teacher Karla Rupp.
