SCOTLAND/MENNO GIRLS RALLY TO CLIP IRENE-WAKONDA

After trailing most of the game, Scotland/Menno staged a fourth quarter rally to come away with a thrilling 46-45 win over Irene-Wakonda in girls basketball action Friday night, Feb. 7 in Menno. The Trappers trailed 12-4 after one, 20-13 at the half and 32-25 after three quarters but outscored the Eagles 21-13 the rest of the way to steal the victory. It was the second win in a row for the SM girls and moved them to 5-10. Irene-Wakonda dropped to 4-10.

Trinity Bietz led the Trappers with 12 points and nine rebounds while Emily Dvorak had nine points and 11 rebounds. Ellyana Ulmer also netted nine points for the home team.

The SM boys were also in action Friday night as part of a doubleheader and lost to Irene-Wakonda 66-52, dropping their record to 3-12. The Eagles improved to 7-8.

Izayah Ulmer, Erick Buechler and Ashton Dennis were all in double figures with 11, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Trapper girls host Canistota in Scotland on Tuesday and both the boys and girls will face Gregory — also in Scotland — Friday, Feb. 14.

Bearcats fall to No. 1 Cougars

The Freeman Academy/Marion boys also took the court Friday night and fell to No. 1 Viborg-Hurley 68-38 in Hurley. Elshadai Mesfin led the Bearcats with 22 points, Lincoln Andersen had 11 rebounds and Karter Weber recorded three assists for the FA/Marion boys, who dropped to 4-9. The Cougars improved to 15-1.
