PHOTO OF THE DAY: NEW WEEK, NEW TOURNAMENT
Jerico Shape, head boys basketball coach for Freeman Academy/Marion, will be the sidelines again Monday night as the Region 4B tournament begins. Shape’s Bearcats head into postseason play with a 6-14 record and as the No. 9 seed and will travel to Irene-Wakonda, which goes into tonight’s game 8-12 and as the No. 8 seed. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Irene. The winner will face No. 1 Viborg-Hurley Tuesday night — weather permitting.
Also Monday night, No. 7 Alcester-Hudson (12-8) will host No. 10 Avon (3-15) with the winner facing No. 2 Parkston (15-5) in the second round.
In other second-round action scheduled for Tuesday, No. 3 Freeman (16-4) will host No. 6 Gayville-Volin (12-7) while No. 4 Centerville (15-5) will host No. 5 Tripp-Delmont/Armour (13-7).
The winners of the Freeman/Gayville-Volin game will play the winner of the Parkston game while the winner of the Centerville/TDA game will face the winner of the Viborg-Hurley, both on Friday, with a trip to the SoDak 16 on the line.
