WEEK-OF UPDATE

The countdown is on to Freeman High School’s three-hour journey northwest to South Dakota’s Hub City, where the Flyers will be playing in their first State “B” Boys Basketball Tournament since 1999. Here a closer look at what’s on tap for the boys in the days to come.

A net-cutting celebration and pep rally will begin shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, with the team scheduled to leave for Aberdeen at 8:45 a.m. The first stop will be check-in at the Ramkota, where all eight participating teams are staying, following by a one hour practice at the Barnett Center starting at 2 p.m.

Interviews with Jeremy Waltner for his upcoming documentary of the Flyers’ return trip to the “B” will begin back at the hotel at 3:15 p.m., and an opening night banquet presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will begin at 6:30 p.m., also at the hotel.

The will have a morning practice at Aberdeen Central on Friday before having lunch and heading to the Barnett Center for the opening session. Freeman plays Viborg-Hurley at 7:45 p.m. that night.

The schedule on Friday and Saturday will be determined after the Flyers know when they play; if they win on Thursday night they will play in the evening sessions both days. If the lose of Thursday they will play in the afternoon sessions both days.

The team has its own private meeting room in the Ramkota Thursday, Friday and Saturday where players, team personnel, family and fans can come and go as they please.
