June Schamber, 95

June (Mundt) Schamber was born to Henry and Johanna (Hines) Mundt on June 13, 1929 at Wagner, S.D. She was baptized on June 30, 1929 by Rev. E. J. Zanow, and was confirmed on April 18, 1943 by Rev. Armin Ellwein at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. She went to be with Jesus on April 27, 2025.

June attended rural school and graduated from Wagner High School in 1947. She attended college in Springfield, S.D. and Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Neb.

She taught in a rural school at Wagner before coming to Freeman to teach grades 1-4 in St. Paul Lutheran School.

On June 4, 1950 she was united in marriage to Edwin Schamber. Their marriage of almost 60 years was blessed with eight children.

June was very involved in her children’s activities, especially Cub Scouts and Brownies, A.A.U. swim team and cross-country.

After raising her children June worked as a receptionist for two local dentists; Dr. Bruce Beier and Dr. Jason Aanenson. After retiring she enjoyed card games with her family, working on jigsaw puzzles, and she walked almost every day well into her nineties.

June was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and held various offices in the church.

Grateful for her constant love and having shared her life are her children: Gordon (Kathy) of Baton Rouge, La., Donald (Kitty) of Omaha, Neb., Nancy (Tim) Kealy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Susan (Jim) Rigo of Freeman, Kay (Duane) Reed of Tacoma, Wash., David (Susan) of Freeman, and Robin (Cindy) of Mesa, Ariz. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband Eddie, son Charles, her parents, her four sisters and two brothers.
