PHOTO OF THE DAY: BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
Pioneer Hall is pictured toward the end of its construction process 50 years ago — a major development for Freeman Junior College and Academy, as well as the larger Freeman community. Dedicated the last week of May 1950, Pioneer Hall opened as one of the largest and most versitile buildings in the community, featuring a full basement and dining room, college-sized basketball auditorium, theater space, and a front lobby area that included a bookshop for the college.
The Courier, in partnership with Heritage Hall Museum & Archives, is planning a major feature on what was largely a volunteer project and its impact on the community scheduled to be published on May 29.
Those who have memories of the construction process or what Pioneer Hall has meant to them over the years and decades should contact The Courier to help provide color to the historical reporting. Email courier@gwtc.net or call/text Jeremy at 605-351-6097.
