AUCH EARNS FIRST STATE MEET GOLF MEDAL; BUSE 21ST
A medal was his goal and a medal was his prize.
Competing in his fourth state golf tournament, Freeman High School sophomore Tannen Auch golfed his way to a top-10 finish and will return with a tie for eighth place thanks to a strong two days at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown Monday and Tuesday, June 2 and 3. His two-day total of 152 was seven strokes off leader Trevor Schulz of Wall, who won the Class B title a 145.
Auch had a particularly impressive Monday when he shot even par (72) and was tied for second in the field of 139. He recorded three birdies, three bogeys and otherwise played par golf through the first 18. He remained even through the first four holes on Tuesday but slipped some, with a double bogey and three bogeys over a five-hole stretch. He finished the second day with an 80.
Also representing Freeman was Jada Buse, who played with the Class B girls at Prairie Winds Golf Course, also in Watertown, and finished 21st in the field of 99, posting a 92 on Monday and a 92 on Tuesday.
