PHOTO OF THE DAY: SUMMER BALL

The summer baseball season is underway for the local American Legion team — Post 152 based in Menno. Playing as the 79ers, the team includes players from Freeman, Menno, Scotland and Marion (towns all established in 1879, hence the team name), as well as Canistota. There are two 79ers teams: The Senior Legion (19-under) and Junior Legion (16-under), with games played through most of July.

Next up for the 79ers are games against Elk Point-Jefferson Sunday in Scotland, and then Tuesday and Wednesday at Wagner and Tabor. Post 152 will play in Freeman June 17 and June 19.
