SATTLER NO-HITS ALEXANDRIA IN POST 152 WIN

Editor’s Note: The Post 152 79ers are an American Legion baseball team made up primarily of players from Freeman, Menno and Scotland and includes two squads: Senior Legion (19-under) and Junior Legion (16-under). The name 79ers is a nod to the year 1879, when the railroad established stops in Freeman, Menno and Scotland. Post 152 also includes players from Canistota and Marion.

A pitching gem by Bryce Sattler highlighted a 3-0 win over Alexandria for the Post 152 79ers Senior Legion squad in Menno Friday night, June 6. Sattler threw a no-hitter against Post 41, striking out eight without giving up a walk. Of the 83 pitches Sattler threw, 62 went for strikes.

Offensively, the 79ers collected eight hits, with both Easton Miller and Evan Scharberg picking up a pair. Scharberg doubled and had an RBI, Luke Peters also knocked in a run, and Trent Guthmiller doubled for Post 152.

The win moved the Post 152 Senior Legion team to 1-1 on the season.

The 79ers Junior Legion team also picked up a win over Alexandria Friday night to improve to 2-0 on the season. Post 152 defeated Post 41 by the mercy rule, 15-0.

Oliver Waltner earned the win for the 79ers, giving up one hit over three innings and striking out six. Of Waltner’s 45 pitches, 31 went for strikes. He also had two RBI.

Jarret Andretta went 2-for-4 from the plate with a pair of RBI, and Riley Gall and Tayden Kerrigan also both knocked in a pair of runs. Also accounting for RBI were Izayah Ulmer, Hunter Nankivel, Tannen Auch, Logun Pankratz, Rylen Tommeraus and Trey Maske.

The 79ers will face Elk Point-Jefferson Sunday in Scotland, with the juniors starting at 5 p.m. followed by the seniors.
