Jane (Hofer) Schrader, 89

Jane (Hofer) Schrader, age 89, formerly of Mitchell, S.D., passed away on May 15, 2025, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, S.D. A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 20, at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, with burial at the Emery Community Cemetery.

Jane was born on July 16, 1935, in Dolton, S.D., to David and Elsie Hofer. She graduated from Freeman High School in 1955. On May 11, 1956, she married Donald J. Schrader in Emery, S.D. Together, they farmed southwest of Emery until 1990, when they moved to Mitchell.

Jane was known for her warm heart, strong work ethic, and generous spirit. She especially loved playing card games — Uno being a family favorite — attending rummage sales, coloring with her grandkids, and making sure everyone was well-fed and cared for.

She is survived by her four children: Eugene Schrader of Sioux Falls, S.D., Vernon (Dawn) Schrader of Fort Gibson, Okla., Norma (Brad) Arend of Summit, S.D., and David (Kristi) Schrader of Broken Arrow, Okla. She is S.D. survived by her sisters, Bernice Kjos of Sioux Falls, and Gloria Schniederman of Viborg; brother, Dennis Hofer of Fort Worth, Tex.; five grandchildren: Mathew Schrader, Breanna (Steven) Burk, Ashley Arend, Tyler Arend, and Connor Schrader; and one great-grandchild, Jacoby Burk.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Schrader; daughter, Marilyn Schrader; parents, David and Elsie Hofer; and siblings: James (Margie) Hofer, Elgin Hofer, Bobby Hofer, and David Jr. Hofer.
