TSCHETTER LEADS POST 152 JUNIORS TO 11-0 WIN SUNDAY NIGHT

The Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota Junior Legion (16u) improved to 3-0 with another mercy-rule win, stamping out Elk Point-Jefferson 11-0 in Scotland Sunday evening, June 8. Post 152 used good plate discipline and timely hitting to built a 9-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on two more runs in the second and third, with the game ending after the top half of the fifth inning.

Easton Tschetter had a banner game, going 3-for-3 at the plate that included a double and two RBI, and he was lights out on the mound, striking out seven without giving up a hit or a walk in three innings pitched. Of his 47 pitches, 30 went for strikes.

Rylen Tommeraus was also efficient in two innings of relief, striking out three and keeping the Huskies hitless.

Elk-Point Jefferson’s only baserunner came on a hit-by-pitch in the third inning.

The 79ers picked up nine hits. Jarret Andreta accounted for three RBI and Rylie Keppen had two, and Tannen Auch and Oliver Waltner both a triples in the second inning.

Waltner and Hunter Nankivel both accounted for an RBI.

Senior Legion gives up lead late

Elk Point-Jefferson scored five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the six to bag a come-from-behind win over the Scotland/Menno/Freeman/Canistota Post 152 Senior Legion squad in Scotland Sunday night, June 8. The 79ers built a 6-1 lead in the second inning and held a 9-3 advantage after the fourth before the Huskies rallied for the 10-9 win. Tayden Kerrigan took the loss, walking two, giving up three hits and two runs in the final two innings pitched.

Trent Guthmiller had the start for the 79ers and threw 4 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and seven runs — just two of them earned — while walking two and striking out eight.

Tannen Auch pitched a third of an inning, walking two and giving up one run.

Offensively, Bryce Sattler went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Easton Miller doubled and had three RBI for the 79ers; Riley Tschetter also doubled and had an RBI.

Both SMFC and Elk Point-Jefferson committed three errors.

The 79ers Senior Legion team is 1-2 and will travel to Wagner Tuesday night.

Editor’s Note: The Post 152 79ers are an American Legion baseball team made up primarily of players from Freeman, Menno and Scotland and includes two squads: Senior Legion (19-under) and Junior Legion (16-under). The name 79ers is a nod to the year 1879, when the railroad established stops in Freeman, Menno and Scotland. Post 152 also includes players from Canistota and Marion.
