PHOTO OF THE DAY: GO FISH
Seven-year-old Elowen Randall gets situated for a photo to be taken by her dad, Dustin, at Saturday morning’s Family Fishing Day at the Freeman Prairie Arboretum. The Randalls were among a smattering of people gathered on what was an overcast but pleasant June 14 morning for a reimagined event that debuted as the Freeman Fishing Derby in 2005.
Family Fishing Day is more informal than the Freeman Fishing Derby, but still includes fishing gear available to those taking part. It is spearheaded by Kerri Sorensen — granddaughter of co-founder Chet Sorensen and daughter of the most recent organizer, Sam Sorensen, who passed away last December — and her partner, Dave Kaufman.
