79ERS WIN A PAIR AT MENNO’S JULY 4 CELEBRATION

The only team to beat the Post 152 Junior Legion team so far this season — Tabor — saw what the 79ers are capable of Friday afternoon, July 4, as they ran away with a 12-0 win at the Lily Pad in Menno as part of that community’s Independence Day celebration.

It was the third time in the past four games that Post 152 — now 14-1 — has won by the mercy rule.

Logun Pankratz’s hot bat once again helped contribute to an offense that continues to get contributions from the full roster; the Freeman junior was 3-for-3 with two RBI and now has 10 hits in his last 13 at bats. Oliver Waltner stayed hot against Tabor, as well, accounting for three RBI; the Freeman junior has 15 RBI in the last eight games and 21 on the season.

Easton Tschetter and Izayah Ulmer both had two hits — Tschetter a double — while Tannen Auch knocked in a pair of runs. Tayden Kerrigan and Jarret Andretta also both batted in a run.

Kerrigan was also dialed in on the mound, throwing four innings of one-hit ball and striking out five without giving up a walk. Of his 44 pitches, 32 went for strikes.

Waltner pitched the final frame, giving up two singles and striking out one.

The 79ers did not commit an error.

The Senior Legion won over Tabor, as well, coming away with a 4-0 victory later Friday afternoon. Evan Scharberg led the way with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate and two RBI, and Bryce Sattler also collected three singles. Rocky Ammann doubled for the 79ers and Luke Peters plated an RBI.

Trent Guthmiller was solid from the mound, giving up just three hits in six innings pitched and striking out 10 against four walks. Riley Tschetter pitched a clean seventh inning, striking out one.

The Senior Legion is now 9-6 and have won eight of their last 10 games.

Both 79ers teams are in Freeman Sunday afternoon, July 6 against Madison; the Junior Legion plays at 2 p.m. followed by the seniors.
