PHOTO OF THE DAY: TOUR GUIDE
With his wife, Lillie, to his left, Andre Eisenbeis leads a group of 20 newspaper men and women from around the county — and one from the UK — on a tour of their Prairie Roots Produce operation located south/southwest of Freeman. It was a part of a day filled with activities for community journalists who are part of the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors, which will gather in Brookings Wednesday through Saturday of this week for the annual summer conference. The smaller pre-conference gathering in Freeman included a brief history of the settlement of the community and featured an ethic potluck meal prepared and served by those affiliated with Heritage Hall Museum & Archives. In addition to the visit to the Eisenbeis operation, guests also saw the Berrybrook Dairy ice cream business operated by Will and Sherilyn Ortman and visited Oak Lane Colony, where they were served supper. Read more about the visit to Freeman in next week’s Courier.
