79ERS FACING TABOR AT 2 PM TODAY FOR SPOT IN REGION 4 CHAMPIONSHIP

One win down, two to go.

That’s the situation for the Post 152 Senior American Legion baseball team after it bounced Wagner 6-1 in the first round of the double-elimination Region 4B Tournament in Platte Tuesday evening, July 22.

Post 152 will next play Tabor today at 2 p.m. — a game that will be followed by Wagner vs. Platte-Geddes, who both lost on Tuesday.

The 79ers and Tabor split a pair of games during the regular season.

If Post 152 wins against Tabor Wednesday afternoon, it would play in the Region 4B championship game Thursday at 2 p.m., where a win would give the 79ers a clean region tournament sweep and a spot at state.

If they lose to Tabor, the 79ers would play a must-win game against the winner of the Wagner/Platte-Geddes game later on Wednesday, with a trip to the championship round still on the table. In that scenario, Post 152 would have to win twice on Thursday to advance to state, which will be held in Milbank Aug. 1-5.

79ers down Wagner

Post 152 took advantage of five Wagner errors on its way to its 6-1 victory on Tuesday, with just two of its six runs earned. The 79ers plated one in the first, two more in the third and another in the fourth to build a 4-0 lead, and then added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Wagner’s lone run came in the bottom of the final inning.

Easton Miller went 2-for-3, Riley Tschetter had a double and two RBI, and Rocky Ammann and Easton Tschetter both singled for the 79ers, win Ammann knocking in a run.

Bryce Sattler was the winning pitcher, giving up just two hits and four innings of work, striking out three without a walk. Erick Buechler pitched two innings in relief, striking out three and walking one, while Tayden Kerrigan cleaned up the final inning, striking out a pair.

The Post 152 Junior Legion will play in its region tournament next week.
