TURNER COUNTY BOARD TO REVIEW DPS PERMIT AUG. 19

The Turner County Board of Adjustment will meet Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m., with a review of the permit granted to Dakota Protein Solutions first on the agenda. Because a new Turner County Courthouse is being built, the meeting will be held at Miller’s Garage located at 101 E. Sanborn Street in Parker, which is located just east of the south end of Main Street.

This meeting follows several weeks of correspondence between the public, city officials from Freeman and Freeman City Attorney Mike Fink regarding the odor coming from DPS, the rendering plant located a mile-and-a-half southeast of Freeman that began processing livestock waste last September.

Because DPS is located in Turner County and just beyond the city of Freeman’s jurisdiction, Turner County has authority over the facility.
