FREEMAN TAKES DOWN PARKER/MARION FOR EARLY TOURNAMENT TITLE

The Freeman Flyers outlasted the first-year Parker/Marion Pheasants 2 sets to 1 to claim the Hanson Early Bird Tournament title Thursday night, Aug. 28 in Alexandria. Freeman lost the first set 23-25, won the second set 25-22 and then took care of Parker/Marion 26-24 in the third and decisive frame.

EARLIER

Wel, well, well …

Less than six months after Marion left its sports partnership with Freeman Academy to join Parker and Freeman Public welcomed Freeman Academy students in the Flyers’ fold, all four schools will be represented on the same volleyball court tonight as Freeman faces Parker/Marion in the Hanson Early Bird Tournament championship. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Both the Flyers and the Pheasants advanced to the title tilt in Alexandria by winning their first two matches on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Freeman, which competes in Class 4B, defeated Platte-Geddes and Avon 2-0 while the Parker/Marion, which competes in Class 5A, beat Wessington Springs 2-0 and Hanson 2-1.
