PHOTO OF THE DAY: SAFETY FIRST
This photo was posted by Freeman Regional Health Services on its Facebook page Wednesday, Sept. 27 with the following:
We had an amazing time in Freeman and Menno for our first bike safety ice cream giveaways! So many kids made the smart/safe choice of wearing helmets to school.
Here’s more on the program:
Freeman Regional Health Services and Total Stop Convenience are partnering with local schools and law enforcement to encourage safe bike riding habits through a fun community-wide initiative.
This back-to-school season, students in Freeman, Marion, Menno and Bridgewater who ride to school wearing a helmet will be rewarded with a “sweet” ticket — a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Total Stop Convenience Store.
The event schedule is as follows:
- Freeman Elementary – Aug. 27
- Menno – Aug. 27
- Freeman Academy – Aug. 28
- Bridgewater – Aug. 28
- Marion – Sept. 9
Freeman Regional and Rural Medical Clinic staff will be on-site at each school from 7:45 a.m. until classes begin to hand out ice cream cone tickets to helmet-wearing students, on the dates noted above.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! Throughout September, kids spotted riding their bikes, while wearing a helmet, might just get “pulled over” by the sheriff’s department. Instead of a citation, officers will hand out a ticket for a free ice cream cone —rewarding safe riders for protecting themselves on the road.
This bike safety promotion is made possible through a partnership between:
- Freeman Regional Health Services
- Total Stop Convenience Store
- Turner, Hutchinson, and McCook County Sheriff’s offices
- Freeman, Marion, Menno and Bridgewater schools.
Wearing a helmet is one of the easiest ways to prevent serious injury while biking and Freeman Regional is excited to partner with local schools, law enforcement, and Total Stop Convenience to make safety fun — and delicious — for the communities we serve.
