SPORTS SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK

Here’s what the local high school sports scene looks like for the week.

Tuesday, Sept. 2: Both Freeman and Menno will be in volleyball action, with the Flyers (3-0) traveling to Irene to face Irene-Wakonda (1-1) and the Wolves hosting Tripp-Delmont/Armour (1-0).

Also Tuesday, Freeman’s cross-country team will travel to the McCook Country Club in Salem for McCook Central/Montrose’s home invitational.

Thursday, Sept. 4: The Flyers will stay put for their volleyball home opener against Howard (0-2) — their final match of the week.

Friday, Sept. 5: It will be a big night for football in Freeman as Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy (2-0) hosts Elkton-Lake Benton (2-0). The Phoenix and Elks are ranked No. 3 and No. 1 in Class 9AA football, respectively. Meanwhile, Scotland/Menno (1-1) will travel to Tyndall to take on Bon Homme (1-1).

Friday evening will also feature the Augustana Twilight cross-country meet under the lights at Yankton Trail Park. Races begin at 6:30 p.m., and Menno is scheduled to compete.

The weekend: Freeman Academy’s soccer team (3-1-1) will head west on Friday to face Douglas/New Underwood (0-4) at Douglas at 5 p.m., and will then play Belle Fourche (1-3) Saturday at 11 a.m.

Saturday, Sept. 11 will also feature the I Have a Dream Tournament hosted by Irene-Wakonda, with Menno (0-2) among the teams taking part.
