Joyce Good
Joyce Good of Parker, S.D., passed away Aug. 26, 2025 at the Tieszen Memorial Nursing Home in Marion, S.D., at the age of 75 due to pancreatic cancer. A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 1, at First Church of God in Marion.
Joyce Kathryn (Vogel) Good was born Nov. 22, 1949 to Leslie and Ruth (Goossen) Vogel. The second of four children, she grew up with her siblings on the family farm north of Monroe, S.D. Joyce graduated from Marion High School and went on to college in Portland, Ore., and Anderson, Ind. She worked as an English teacher after college in Nebraska and South Dakota.
On May 27, 1979 Joyce married Roland Good. After a year in Iowa, her persuasive mother sent them a newspaper ad for a veterinarian in Parker. Ron and Joyce have called Parker their home since 1980 and have spent the past 45 years managing the Parker Vet Clinic office together. She thoroughly enjoyed talking with clients in the community and being a support to all who entered the office, which often turned into hour long conversations about life, politics, their kids and God.
Joyce shared her love of Jesus (and pranks) with their two children as well as countless teenagers over her 30-plus years working with their church youth groups. Her four grandkids, her pride and joy, have also learned about Nana’s love of Jesus through reading the Bible together and hearing her life stories. Joyce also passed on her passion for pranks to her grandkids, which may have involved her passionate fear of mice as stuffed mice seemed to appear randomly throughout their house, accompanied by the laughter of those excited grandkids.
Driving through the countryside with Ron to see God’s handy work was one of Joyce’s favorite past times. Time spent building their cabins with their two children was cherished as the family was able to grow closer to each other through those projects, and closer to God through the children’s various ladder stunts. Chasing after her grandkids and learning about their sports, baking, Legos, drawings and playing Minecraft with them always brought a smile to her face.
Joyce had a very adventurous spirit. She has been known to be coaxed out on a rock face while rock climbing with her children over the years, as well as heading out on the trails on an ATV or snowmobile in the Black Hills with family and friends. A secret/not so secret hobby of hers was matchmaking for those “nice young people who needed a good mate.” She made it her mission. Joyce knew how great marriage could be due to being married to Ron, and she wanted that for other people as well.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ron; son Benjamin (Kat) and daughter Autumne (Kyle); and grandchildren Creighton and Jaylyn Good, and Zeke and Wyatt Hinton. She is also survived by her sister Darleen Nelson and brother Bill Vogel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Ronnie), and son (Joseph).
