Arden J. Becker, 88

Visitation and viewing for Arden J. Becker will be held at Walter’s Funeral Home in Freeman on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A private family burial will be held at the Schartner Mennonite Cemetery.

Arden J.Becker, 88, of Freeman, S.D., passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2025 at home under Hospice care. Arden had recently been diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer, and his wish to remain in his home was honored, where he was lovingly cared for by his wife and daughters.

Arden was born on Feb. 26,1937 to Ed and Alvina Becker on the family farm by Marion, S.D. He married Carolyn Kay Schimmel June 25, 1960 in Webster, S.D. They were blessed with two daughters, Marlaree Ann and Kristee Kay.

Surviving Arden are his wife of 65 years, Carolyn of Freeman, S.D.; daughters Marlaree and husband Gary Windish of Freeman; Kristee Becker and husband Joe Provost of Kiowa Colo.; grandchildren: Marissa and husband Leslie Branson of Denver, Colo.; Christopher Pedone and wife Cara of Denver; Jake Windish and wife Aubrey of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Courtnee Pedone of Denver; and Nicole White of Andover, Kan.; great-grandchildren: Paxton and Sofia Branson, Aspyn and Kiera White, Tahlia Pedone and Evelyn Windish; brothers Jeral Becker and wife Wanda of St Louis, Mo. And Norman Becker of Portland Ore.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arden was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Alvina Becker, parents-in-law Violet and Alvin Schimmel, sisters-in-law Karen Becker, Colleen Grimes, Jo Ann Schimmel, and Susan Schimmel, and brothers-in-law Wilmer Schimmel and RV Grimes.

Arden was a Christian and he spoke often about looking forward to Heaven. He accepted his cancer diagnosis with grace, telling all who visited that “God does not make mistakes, God is in control.”

Grandpa Tractor you are so loved.
