FREEMAN BOYS SECOND AT REGION 3B MEET

The Freeman High School boys will compete as a full team at the 2025 South Dakota High School State Cross Country Championships next Saturday thanks to a runner-up finish in Burke on Wednesday.

Competing in a heavy fog at the Burke Golf Club the afternoon of Oct. 15, the Flyers’ top three runners finished 5th, 8th and 10th in the 40-runner field to place ahead of Gregory, Kimball/White Lake and Avon, which all had eyes on that coveted second-place spot.

As expected, Mitchell Christian ran away with the Region 3B title, filling each of the first three spots.

Freeman sophomore Lane McCune led the Flyers by placing fifth in 18:02.

Eighth grader Collin Randall was eighth in 18:24 while sophomore Luke Miller — who rolled an ankle on Sunday but was still able to compete — placed 10th with an 18:24 clocking.

Also competing for Freeman was freshman Josh Oleson (14th, 18:48) and eighth grader Korbin Jensen (25th, 20:37).

In the girls division, freshman Olivia Schultz was the lone state qualifier, locking up the final qualifying spot with a 20th place finish (22:38).

Alexa Nanninga, a Freeman sophomore, just missed out by finished 21st (22:56).

Eighth grader Hannah Rigo also competed for the Freeman girls, finishing 31st (24:50) in the 40-runner field.

For Menno, Zoe Schaeffer puncher her return ticket to state with a 15th place finish (22:18).

Also for the Wolves:

  • Eighth grader Savanah Wielenga finished 24th (23:12)
  • Freshman Leah Crick placed 33rd (25:16)
  • Freshman Emma Rempfer crossed the line 35th (25:47)
  • Eighth grader Ivana Schaeffer finished 39th (26:43).
