Anna Broders

Anna Marie (Nielsen) Broders was born Feb. 22, 1937 at Lindy, Neb., to Karl and Luella (Bourn) Nielsen. She was taken to Heaven on Dec. 1, 2017.

She was Baptized into the Christian Faith at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Lindy. Anna attended Country School through the eighth grade. She then moved over to the farm with her brother Johnnie where she helped him on the farm. She also worked for Dennis Wollman at the Freeman Shopping Center where she enjoyed meeting people and became good friends with Ida Stoebner.

On April 9, 1955 she was united in marriage to Larry Broders in Lindy. They resided on a farm by Niobrara, Neb., for a couple of years. They then relocated first to Lindy, and then to Devil Nest, Neb., for a number of years where they farmed and raised livestock of all kinds. There they also raised their two sons Randy and Lee Allen. In 1971 they packed up the family and moved to a farm north of Olivet, S.D., where they continued to farm and raise cattle. Larry started doing custom combining and trucking. Anna kept busy cooking and attending to other chores around the farm. Larry always requested big meals and often brought hired men or friends from the colony to eat and there was usually plenty of food to go around. Anna would often end up doing the dishes until midnight, as she always kept the house spotless. They then moved to Freeman where they stayed. Anna kept busy helping all of us with all kinds of jobs, until going to the hospital three weeks ago.

Anna loved gardening and flowers, especially roses. Her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.

Anna is survived by her sons: Randy (Bonnie) Broders and Lee Allen Broders both of Freeman, S.D.; grandchildren: Tom (Kelli) Broders, Brett Broders, Allen Broders, all of Freeman, and Sara (Dustin) Dornbusch of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren: Brogun, Kendall and Kinsley Broders; a brother, Johnnie Nielsen; sister, Irene (Galen) Stewart; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kathy Nielsen of Bloomfield, Neb., Ewald (Shirley) Poppe, Marv (Alice Lou) Hegge of Crofton, Neb., Dick (Sharon) Broders of Norfolk, Neb., Gene Jessen, Delores Broders of Bloomfield; close friend Brenda Baumberger of Freeman, and her cat, Scooter.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Larry, parents Karl and Luella Nielsen, brother Dan Nielsen, and four infant sisters and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

A time of remembrance was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Freeman, Thursday, Dec. 7 with Pastor Terry Makelin officiating. Pallbearers were Tom Broders, Brett Broders, Allen Broders, Sara Dornbusch, Dustin Dornbusch and Tim Jessen. Interment was in the Freeman City Cemetery.
