David E. Glanzer was born to David S. W. Glanzer and Elizabeth Hofer Glanzer on June 12, 1929 south of Bridgewater, S.D. He attended country school through the eighth grade and then he was needed on the farm to help his dad. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at a revival meeting under Rev. Albert Ewert and was baptized on Sept. 7, 1947. He became a member of the Neu Hutterthaler Mennonite Church of Bridgewater.
David was married to Ruth R. Ewert on May 26, 1954, by Rev. Albert Ewert. They started married life near Bridgewater, and in 1956 they purchased a farm south of Spencer, S.D. In 1969 they moved in to Spencer and back to a farm east of Spencer in 1979. In 2008, they moved to an apartment in Mitchell, S.D. and then moved to Firesteel Health Care in February 2017. David worked at Paramount Pipe, Parkston Creamery, farming, janitor at Spencer School, and Feterl Manufacturing. In his free time David enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing cards, and going to the livestock sale barn. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and reading his Bible.
David is survived by his loving wife Ruth, eight children and their families: Eunice (Wayne) Olivier of Jamestown, N.D., Clyde (Valerie) of Crooks, S.D., Donna (John) Ruden of Spencer, Dwight (Stacey) of N. Sioux City, S.D., Lois (Bradley) Hofer of Bridgewater, Rosie (Ron) Reif of Spencer, Sharon (Scott) Reif of Spencer, and Karen (Don) Mentele of Pierre, S.D.; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters: Mary Glanzer, Freeman, S.D. and Elizabeth Wipf, Dutchess Canada; in-laws: Rueben (Jewel) Ewert, Brush, Colo., Amos (Donna) Ewert, Plantation, Fla., Priscilla (Gene) Applewick, Madison, S.D., and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter; two grandsons: Rocky Hofer and Jared Glanzer; great- granddaughter Emma Van Dusseldorp; great-grandson Brody Mentele; his parents David and Elizabeth; brothers/sister-in-laws: Joe (Katie), Sam (Sarah), Jacob (Susie), Paul (Gladys); sister/brother-in-law Barbara (John Seusz); brother-in-law David Wipf; and parents-in-law Albert and Rosie Ewert.
David died Dec. 8, 2018.
