Gregory J. Duerksen, 61, of Richmond, Va., died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Richmond, VA; son, Alek of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter, Erika, of Falls Church, Va.; his parents, Charles and Evelyn Duerksen, of Freeman, S.D.; his sisters: Jeanette (Mark) Anderson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Lynette (Brad) Sparks of Rochester, N.Y., and Beth (Chris) Olkiewicz of Ankeny, Iowa; plus many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 9 at Third Church in Richmond, Va. Burial of his ashes will be at a later date at the Tieszen Cemetery of Marion, S.D.
The Duerksen family lived in the Parker/Marion area before moving to Freeman in 1974. Greg graduated in 1975 from Freeman High School, Augustana College in 1979 and Harvard Business School in 1983. He devoted his business career to finding leaders for organizations that feed the world and keep it healthy in an executive recruiting business, Kincannon & Reed, that he led as president for 11 years.
