Ella Hein was born Aug. 31, 1920 to Robert and Bertha Hein. She was baptized on Sept. 12, 1920 at the home of her parents by Rev. W. Hodde, Evangelical Lutheran pastor. She was confirmed on April 14, 1935 by Rev. C.D. Eifert at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Freeman, S.D.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Heilbrann until the congregation disbanded, and then she transferred to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Freeman, where she remained a faithful member of her church.

Ella attended grade school at Knodel School District 84. She farmed with her parents for many years. After the death of her parents, Ella moved to Freeman where she kept busy with a large garden. She enjoyed canning and preserving the produce for herself and sister Elsie, and for giving away to friends and family. Ella also worked at the cafe in Freeman making cheesepockets and pies.

Ella passed away Dec. 27, 2018 at Oakview Terrace. Ella is survived by many friends and relatives. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bertha Hein, and twin sister Elsie.

A memorial service was held Jan. 2 at the St. Paul Lutheran.
