FHS girls open season with big win; FA/Marion boys win, too

The Freeman High School girls opened the 2017-18 season with a big win over Viborg-Hurley in Hurley Friday night, Dec. 8. The Flyers won 55-22 behind 16 points from Hannah Eberts and 10 from Josie Fuhrmann.

The Freeman Academy/Marion boys also picked up a win in their opener, edging Alcester-Hudson 40-38 in Alcester. Gavin Pankratz had 12 points and eight rebounds, Brennan Haggerty had 10 points and five steals and Thaniel Schroeder had 10 points and four steals for the Bearcats. 

Earlier in the evening, the Alcester-Hudson girls defeated Freeman Academy/Marion 50-27. Annie Carlson had 11 points to lead the Bearcats. 

Finally on Friday, the Freeman Public boys were edged by Viborg-Hurley 69-66. Eric Fuhrmann led the way for the Flyers with 21 points. Braxton Schmidt added 16 and Charles Harberts went for 12.

FA/Marion is home on Saturday, Dec. 9 against Oldham-Ramona/Rutland at Freeman Academy. Both boys and girls JV teams will start at 1 p.m. Varsity girls are at 2:15 p.m., followed by varsity boys.
