Joseph A. Pollman was born on Aug. 19, 1942 to Samuel Pollman Sr. and Bertha (Wipf) Pollman at home near Bridgewater, S.D. The Lord called him home and he passed peacefully on Dec. 4, 2017 at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Joseph grew up on the family farm and attended school in Bridgewater. Joseph recognized the need for Christ and accepted Christ as his personal Savior as a teenager in 1957 while attending a revival tent meeting in Dolton, S.D., led by Rev. Cloud of Menno, S.D. Upon his confession of faith, Joseph was baptized on Sept. 24, 1961 by Rev. Albert Ewert at the Neu Hutterthaler Mennonite Church near Bridgewater.
On March 3, 1963, Joseph married Alice Peters of Henderson, Neb. This union was blessed with five children: Sherry, Carla, Angela, Todd and Lance. Together they lived on the family farm near Bridgewater and attended Salem MB Church.
Joseph provided for his family with his passion of farming and livestock. He would spend long days caring for the farm, but always made time for his family. He passed his hard work ethic on to his children and always took the time to teach them and share his knowledge. Joseph had a love for cooking, grilling and entertaining. His favorite was fried chicken. He always strived to put others above himself and made sure they were comfortable. He also enjoyed working with his hands through carpentry, welding and mechanics as well as fishing, word search puzzles and reading the Green Sheet Farm Forum. In later years, Joseph and Alice enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren; especially in Arizona and California during the cold South Dakota winters. Most recently, Joseph and Alice lived in Sioux Falls and enjoyed attending church and church activities at Christ Community Church and enjoyed retirement.
Joseph is survived by his wife Alice; five children: Sherry (Daron) Ross, Sioux Falls; Carla (Trond) Sande, Norway; Angela Vore, Phoenix, Ariz.; Todd (Micki Lancaster) Pollman, Bridgewater; Lance (Nicole Waldner) Pollman, Bridgewater; 17 grandchildren: Rebekah and Hannah Ross; Cecilie, Elisabeth, Kristoffer and Sara-Marlen Sande; Alexander, Ashleigh, and Matthew Vore; Kylee, Samuel and Luke Pollman; Makayla, Abreanna, Isabella, Bryson and Carlos Pollman; two sisters Bernice Fincher, Lennox and Beverly (Byron) Schulke, Ames and; one brother, Kip Steinberg, Sioux Falls, as well as many nieces and nephews.
