Joy H. (Hafner) Fischer grew up near Freeman, S.D. She was born Jan. 1, 1926 and passed away at the age of 92 on June 17, 2018 at The Villa, Middleton, Wis.
She received a teaching degree from Northern Teachers College and Dakota State College. She enjoyed her years of teaching elementary school at The School for the Blind in Gary, S.D., one-room rural schools in southeastern South Dakota and public schools in Murdo, S.D. and Kimball, S.D. She also managed a snack shop in Rapid City, S.D.
Joy was a loving wife to the late Paul H. Fischer. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Reinhold and Hulda Hafner and her brother, Gerald. She is survived by her daughters: Kristine Fischer (Jim Jarvis), Janell Fischer-Bigge and Karen Fischer-Kordela (David); grandchildren: Jeremy Bigge (Ivy), Mitchell Fischer-Bigge and Rylee Kordela; great-grandchildren: Avi and Knox Bigge; sisters: Marie Wrenn and Dorothy Jelly.
Joy’s request for no services will be honored. Joy always stated “If you can’t give me flowers when I am alive, I sure don’t want them when I am dead.” Please give someone you love flowers in her memory.
A celebratory gathering is planned for July 28, 2018 in Tripp, S.D.
