Judith Isaacs, 84 of Menno, S.D., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are to be directed to the Menno-Olivet Care Center.
Judith Delaine (Stetler) Isaacs was born March 30, 1935 to Emilia (Reister) and Charles Stetler in rural Olivet, S.D. She was baptized June 25, 1935 and confirmed on Aug. 25, 1949 in the Bethany Reformed Church of Scotland, S.D. She attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Scotland High School in 1953. She attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, S.D., graduating with a degree in secretarial studies. She worked in Sioux Falls, S.D. for several years before marrying.
On Feb. 24, 1957 she was married to Richard Isaacs in Scotland. They farmed for less than a year on a rented farm near Olivet. They moved onto her home place in early 1958 where they lived and farmed for 52 years before retiring to West Winds in Scotland. She entered the Menno Olivet Care Center on Dec. 24, 2018 where she resided until her passing.
She was a hard-working farm wife, helping with all aspects of farming as well as gardening and raising a family. She was also employed by LJM Hospital in Scotland for 30 years. She enjoyed being active and walking for miles every day as the weather allowed. She enjoyed reading, watching westerns and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She rarely missed one of their activities. She also enjoyed attending her great-grandchildren’s events.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard, on March 26, 2019. She leaves to mourn her daughter Alita (Rodger) Guthmiller of Menno and son Wade Isaacs of Scotland and Texas; three grandchildren: Brett (Rachel) Guthmiller, Menno, Heidi (Drew) Guthmiller, St. Paul, Minn., and Jenna (Martin) Guthmiller of Chicago, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren: Trent, Kylie, Karsten and Taralyn Guthmiller of Menno.
