KOCH, CANDIDATE FOR DISTRICT 19 HOUSE, PASSES AWAY

Posted in:

John C. Koch, a Freeman resident and candidate for District 19 House in the Nov. 6 general election, died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism late Friday night, Oct. 26 during a family visit to Texas. Services are pending.

Koch, 72, entered the District 19 race as a Democrat and will remain on the ballot. If he were to be elected, Koch's seat in the state legislature would be filled by appointment.

Koch is well-known in the Freeman community. He was currently serving as the education committee chair of the Freeman Community Development Corporation and was involved in other committee development projects. Koch was also active in community theater, directing 11 Schmeckfest musicals in addition to various summer theater performances going back to the late 1990s. He also organized the three-day Freeman Chautauqua during the summer of 2017.
