Lucile Stirling, 93, Parkston, S.D., went to her heavenly home Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Firesteel Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, March 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Burial was in Milltown Cemetery.
Lucile Marie Stirling daughter of Leo and Florence (Grosz) Gukeisen was born Feb. 2, 1925 in Parkston. She graduated from Parkston High School in 1943 and attended Notre Dame Jr. College in Mitchell, S.D., where she obtained her teaching certificate. She later completed her bachelor’s degree at Southern State College in Springfield, with an elementary education degree in 1972. On Feb. 3, 1947 she married Kenneth Stirling and they farmed east of Parkston. She raised nine children before returning to the teaching profession. She taught 29 years in the Parkston School District with teaching assignments at Kulm School, Lake City School, Dimock School and New Elm until her retirement in 1992. She resided in Freeman, S.D., for several years before moving to Mitchell. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston where she was a member of Catholic Daughters and taught Religious Education. She spent several years as secretary of the Milltown Cemetery and was known for organizing their Memorial Day Ceremony for many years.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Leo (Marilyn) Stirling of Brookings, S.D., Karen (Charles) Prickett of Mitchell, Linda (Hugh) Holmes of Mitchell, Keith (Julie) Stirling of Lake Andes, S.D., Lynette (Don) Pietz of Parkston, Laurel (Rick) Haeuszer of Freeman, Kay (Lonnie) Tjaden of Freeman and Kent Stirling of Tripp, S.D.; 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth in 1978; a son, Kevin; and two daughters-in-law: Amy and Ruth.
