Basketball hoops are back in place at the Freeman Community Center thanks to a project spearheaded by city councilor Terry Jacobsen to allow for more practice space for Freeman teams. Jacobsen raised funds and drummed up sponsorship support for the project; the backboards were installed Thursday morning, Feb. 20 by Combined Building Specialties of Sioux Falls. The building that today serves as the Freeman Community Center was, for decades, home to Freeman Flyers basketball. The gymnaisum was built in 1957 and used as the primary home to the Flyers until the current junior-senior high school gym was built in 1992.
