Scenes like this one in Menno were familiar across the region as folks picked up from a summer storm that tore through the area early Wednesday morning, July 18. The communities of Parkston, Tripp and Olivet were among the hardest hit, but winds that were reported at 80 miles per hour created a significant mess in Menno through downed branches and limbs and broken large trees. This is Jack Hertz cleaning up in front of his home on Fifth Street. Freeman received considerable rainfall (2 1/2 inches was reported) but little damage by way of downed trees.
