This lunch counter and garage once stood on the corner of Sixth Street and Highway 81, where Casey's is located today. It even sat at an angle facing southeast — just like the convinence store does. Known as "Freedom Corner," the area was outside town and known to be routier than the conservative Freeman community to the west. Freedom Corner thrived throughout the early and middle decades of the 20th century before losing steam in the 1960s. The property eventually became a car lot for Huber Motor before Casey's took it over and built a new store there in 2013.
