Freeman girls basketball head coach Curtis Sage talks with his team during a break in the action Tuesday night, Feb. 25 — the second night of the Region 5B Tournament. The No. 3 Flyers played host to No. 6 Scotland and battled the Highlanders to the last possession, hanging on for a exciting 43-41 win. Freeman led big earlly, but the Highlanders climbed back into the game in the second half before taking a 39-37 lead with 1:50 to play. Scotland led by 41-37 with less than 40 seconds to play, but couldn't put the game away at the free-throw line. That opened the door for the Flyers, who ended up scorig the final six points — three big ones by Rijjy Peterson — that sealed the deal for Freeman. Peterson, a junior, led the way with 13 points, four steals and three assists while Emily Miller added 10 points and eight rebounds. The Flyers shot 44% from the field; they will play No. 2 Viborg-Hurley Thursday in Tea. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
