Jason Scharberg, left, and Nathan Weier assemble the cutout that is used to paint the Blacksox logo behind home plate at Merchants State Bank field Sunday morning, July 7. Today is a big day in the community as the baseball and softball field complex will once again be home to Freeman's Independence Day celebration. Festivities begin at 12 noon when the chislic stand, inflatables and sand coin pit all open, and softball action gets underway. Concessions will also be available at the softball field. Admission to the children's activities is also good for the Freeman Swimming Pool.

Softball and baseball games continue throughout the day, with the Blacksox taking the field against Tabor starting at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will follow.

The chislic (225 dozen) is being sponosored by Merchants State Bank.

The sand pit ($200) is being sponsored by Edwards Tree Service.

The fireworks are being sponosored by CorTrust Bank.
