A city truck is loaded with sand and ready to hit the streets in anticipation of the first major winter weather event of the season. Up to 7 inches of snow is being forecast for the Freeman community through tonight and into tomorrow morning, with windy conditions expected to make travel difficult. Freeman Public is dismissing school at 1 p.m. today in anticipation of the weather and has called off classes for Wednesday. As for the city of Freeman, it has not declared a snow emergency, but if and when it does, "city ordinance requires all vehicles to be removed from city streets until snow has been removed," according to a Facebook post the city of Freeman. "Sidewalks in the business district should be cleared by 7 a.m. to ensure proper snow removal in the streets. The business district includes Main Street from Fifth to Railway and one block on either side of Main, as well as Poplar Street from the post office to City Hall."
