Canistota/Freeman had no trouble improving to 5-1 in Castlewood Friday night, Oct. 2, downing the Warriors (2-4) 58-7. The game would have been over at halftime by the 50-point mercy rule, but Castlewood took advantage of a Pride turnover and scored a touchdown midway through the second period; the score at halftime was 50-7.

Tschetter said he was "very satisfied" with his own corn and bean harvest, which he says yielded 40 bushels of beans and 180 bushes of corn. For many people who lived in the Freeman area in the 1980s and 1990s, this — the interior of The Cornerstone — is a familiar site. The Cornerstone Steakhouse opened along Highway 81 on September 29, 1978 and was built "to glorify the Lord," according to Quentin Groves, president of the corporation that established the business as both a restaurant and a place for regular gospel music. In its earliest years The Cornerstone was open Tuesdays through Sundays for both noon and evening meals. 

Menno/Marion had opportunities in the second half to make key plays, including late in the fourth quarter, but did not execute at critical times and unded up one touchdown short in a 24-18 loss to Scotland in Scotland Friday night, Sept. 25. Last week was suppose to be a bye week for the Razorbacks, but the Scotland game was scheduled after Menno/Marion’s Sept. 18 game against Baltic was canceled because of COVID-19. The Razorbacks played without student-athletes from Marion.

"The men have their thing; we thought there should be something for the women," said Zeeb, who helped establish the rotation display in 2001. These year's theme? Hair. 

Kirk McCormick has resigned as the chief of police for the city of Freeman, effective immediately. McCormick turned in his letter of resignation last week Friday, Sept. 25 and the Freeman City Council accepted his resignation at its second meeting of the month Monday night, Sept. 28. It also agreed to advertise for a full-time police officer.

Luverne Langerock, 89 of Marion, passed away on Sept. 25, 2020 at the Sanford USD Medical Center. A private family service was scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at Calvary Reformed Church in Monroe, S.D. Visitation with no family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the church. Due to Covid-19 the family request that guests wear a mask and practice social distancing at both opportunities to celebrate Luverne’s life.
