PRIDE WIN 40-6, RAZORBACKS LOSE 52-0
Canistota/Freeman moved to 3-0 with a 40-6 win over Oldham-Ramona/Rutland Friday night, Sept. 4. The Pride led 32-0 at halftime of Freeman Public's homecoming game. The Raiders dropped to 2-1. Also Friday, 9AA top-ranked Viborg-Hurley defeated Menno/Marion 52-0 to improve to 3-0. The Razorbacks dropped to 0-3. Viborg-Hurley played without starting quarterback Chase Mason, who tore his ACL against Arlington-Lake Preston and will miss the remainder of the season.

It's Homecoming Friday, which means a half-day of school, float-building for the older students and a 1 p.m. parade through downtown. Football is on tap for tonight as the top-ranked Canistota/Freeman Pride host Oldham/Ramonda-Rutland. A long weekend follows; with Labor Day on Monday, students like Max will get a three-day respite.

FIRST CASE OF COVID AT MENNO HIGH SCHOOL
Menno Public School is dealing with its first case of COVID-19, which was confirmed at the high school Wednesday, Sept. 2. As a result of close-contact protocol and other recommendations from the Department of Health and CDC, 17 high school students are quarantined for 14 days starting Thursday, Sept. 3, according to pre-k-8 principal Kory Foss.

Dewayne L. Hiebner: 1942-2020
Dewayne L. Hiebner was called home on Aug. 26, 2020 at the Aurora Memorial Hospital after going into cardiac arrest. Dewayne was born Feb. 8, 1942 in York, Neb. to Thomas and Lena (Rempel) Hiebner. He was married to Sharon Glanzer in rural Freeman, S.D. on July 18, 1965. Dewayne accepted Christ as his personal Savior as a teenager while attending an Aurora Crusade meeting. He was a member of the Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson, Neb.

Alfred E. Schaeffer, age 94 of Menno, S.D., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno. A services was held Monday, Aug. 31 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Bill Vis officiating. Burial was at the Menno Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Rames-Bender American Legion Post #152 and the SDANGHG.

EDITORIAL: SUDDEN LOSS OFFERS POWERFUL REMINDERS
  The greater Freeman community is feeling the sting and impact of sudden loss this week following the automobile accident that claimed the life of Dennis Schrock Sunday night. Schrock died at the intersection of 280th St. and S.D. Highway 19 when the westbound vehicle he was driving collided with a southbound minivan. He died at the scene, according to a report from the Department of Public Safety. He was 71.
