Jocelyn Lee, an eighth grader at Freeman Public, was a featured soloist for “A Million Dreams,” a well-known song that is part of “The Greatest Showman” soundtrack, Sunday evening, Nov. 13. Lee is a member of the 28-voice Freeman Area Children’s Choir, which reassembled this fall for the first time since 2019 under the leadership of Amber Bradley and Iwona Letwer, staff members at Freeman Academy and Freeman Public. Sunday’s concert at the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church included seven songs, as well as special piano music by six members of the choir.

The folks at the Tumble On Inn come together to solve a challenge in the closing minutes of "The Inn Around The Corner," a play being presented by Freeman Academy this Friday and Saturday night. The comedy takes place in an Old West town and centers around a conflict between patrons of the inn, those passing by and unseen troublemakers in the community. The actors pictured here are, from left: Madelyn Anderson, Jax Kaufman, Angelyn Allison, Jada Buse, Jessica Paschal and Solomon Ortman. Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets are available at the door.

This is what the inside of Freeman Public's newest facility looked like early this week prior to the wrestling mats going in. Work on The Hangar has largely drawn to a close and will see its first use on Nov. 15 when Freeman/Marion holds its first wrestling practice of the season. In addition to being the home of the wrestling program, the $1 million addition east of the school's auxiliary gym will be used as a multipurpose facility.

Workers from Black-Top Paving, a subcontractor for Reede Construction, were back at it Monday morning pouring concrete sidewalks and installing another layer of pavement on Fourth Street; this is looking west from Main. It was a special night for these six with ties to the Freeman community at the 2022 South Dakota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Beseda Hall in Tabor Saturday, Nov. 5. Ron Baker, left, and the late Warren Scherschligt were part of the five-member Class of 2022 recognized for their play on the baseball field. Warren, who passed away from cancer in 2019, was represented by his immediate family: sons Brett and Allen; wife Janet; son Lee and daughter Jennifer Tschetter.
