PHOTO OF THE DAY: EMPTY CHAIRS ON AN EMPTY STAGE
All was quiet on the Freeman High School gymnasium stage on Monday morning, but this is where the action will be around 7:30 p.m. tonight as homecoming royalty is crowned as part of coronation — the formal start to homecoming week in Freeman. Candidates for king are Jayden Jacobsen, Jon Slevin and Zac Sayler and, for queen, Brooklyn Mendel, Kate Miller and Erin Uecker. Royalty candidates were selected by the senior class and king and queen will be named by a vote of the student body. The traditional burning of the "F" will follow coronation.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: VIEW FROM A BRIDGE
This photo was taken looking to the north/northwest from the iron bridge that connects the island to the rest of the Freeman Prairie Arboretum, and shows several of the outbuildings that are part of the Heritage Hall Museum & Archives campus. It's a cloudy, cool but pleasant Friday following a nice rain shower Thursday night. Freeman received about 2 1/2 inches of moisture while some rural areas are reporting more. There is a slight chance of additional rainfall this weekend.

This undated photo shows Fensel's Hatchery when it was located on the south end of Cherry Street — today the heavily wooded area known as Dead Man's Alley. This location served both the hatchery and the electric store before the entire Fensel's operation moved to Highway 81 in the 1960s. The foundations of some of the buildings pictured are still there. The homes pictured at the top are today occupied by Tim and Mary Waltner (very top), Ray and Lavonne Schultz (left of center) and Kenny Haar (right of center).

POLICE: NO U-TURNS PERMITTED ON MAIN STREET
Freeman Police Chief Scott Brewer is reminding the public that a double yellow striped centerline painted last week on the city’s new Main Street means that drivers cannot cross that line while traveling north or south on the roadway. That includes making a U-turn at the intersections of Main and Fourth and Main and Third, and also attempting an illegal maneuver to park on the other side of the street.
